Green & Beautiful Campaign
Funds given for this campaign will transform the library grounds into a haven for wildlife, an outdoor classroom, and a wonderful place for relaxation and enjoyment for patrons and the community.
The Campaign hopes to have these efforts well underway in time for the library’s 125th anniversary in 2027.
Give now through our Go Fund Me page. Gifts of ANY amount DO make a difference.
The Mission:
The purpose of the Green & Beautiful Plan is to transform the library grounds into spaces that are ecologically friendly, foster recreation and community engagement, and provide teaching tools in various subjects.
The goal is also to restore the grounds to their former beauty, by replacing trees and shrubs, rejuvenating and reimagining gardens and improving the grasslands.
The William Fogg Library is on the National Historic Register, as is the Fogg Homestead, so the grounds are deserving of respect. The library grounds are also home to the town’s World War I Monument, honoring veterans of that war, so it behooves us to create and maintain an area that is respectful, restful and befitting fallen heroes.
It is also important to recognize that the William Fogg Library will celebrate its 125th anniversary in 2027. What better way to celebrate this significant milestone than by giving the library, its patrons, and the community a gift that will provide beauty, enjoyment, education and environmental stewardship to so many?
The plan creates various specific spaces among the grounds, each with its own purpose. Separate sheets discuss the educational, environmental and economic benefits of each.

Overall Benefits of the Green & Beautiful Plan:
The plan creates restful, beautiful spaces for people of all ages to enjoy. Within these spaces, they can walk, sit and rest, read, take photographs, paint, eat lunch, bird watch or simply take in the beauty around them.
People can walk their dogs here; children can play, a family can picnic, toss a Frisbee or just lie on the grass and watch the clouds.
The rejuvenated spaces will better lend themselves to all types of programming, and especially to environmental education programming (see the Environmental fact sheet).
The spaces are also designed with community events in mind, and to aid in library fundraising, thus helping ensure a successful future for the library (see Economic fact sheet).
