AARP Foundation Tax-Aide

With challenges of the pandemic upon us, AARP Foundation Tax-Aide, working with the IRS are working on approaches that both maximize the safety of our volunteers and you, the taxpayer as well as ensure the security of your taxpayer. With these goals in mind, the Tax-Aide volunteers will be using a virtual approach.

In place of the face-to-face approach that you may be familiar with, we will be scheduling individual taxpayers in 30 minutes slots. While you remain in your car, a volunteer will come to your car to gather your tax documents for scanning. At the same time, you will be asked to complete the Intake/Interview & Quality Review Sheet (Form 13614-C) which asks specifics about you, any
dependents and about your income (sources etc.) and you will also be asked to sign Form 14446 (Virtual VITA/TCE Taxpayer consent) which gives your consent to having your taxes prepared using this virtual approach.

After the scanning of your documents, they will be returned to you and a volunteer will call you some days after to go over your intake form and resolve any questions they may have and then prepare your return. After your return is completed and Quality Reviewed, a volunteer will call to schedule a time for you to get a copy of your return and sign Form 8879 (IRS e-file Signature Authorization) and will schedule a time for the volunteer to review your return with you over the phone.

All appointments to have your documents scanned must be made at least one week in advance of the date you would plan on arriving at the William Fogg Homestead. The currently planned days are Mondays 1 to 4:30pm and Thursdays 10am to 1:30pm. Prior to your scheduled time, a volunteer will call you to go over the procedure and to do a quick assessment to check that your return is in scope for the returns we are certified to complete (if we did your return last year, most likely it will be in scope). To best facilitate that we can connect with you prior to your visit, the person at the library taking your appointment will ask the best days(s) and times(s) to reach you.

Please note, that this is subject to change as we will always obey any local and state guidelines that may be put in place and as always, masks are an absolute requirement.
